S2 E2: [PEPTALK] Start Showing up for Your Life

Hey y’all. Kristin here, your host of the So-She-Did podcast. Summer weather is here in Colorado, the skies are blue and the mountains are waiting for me to hike them. We spent mother’s day driving up to Pike’s Peak, America’s mountain. While I don’t love heights, it was a reminder to me of all of the things that I have accomplished in the past.
Last summer, I went sky diving for the first (and second!) time, I hiked my first 14er (that’s a 14k foot mountain), visited Nashville, Houston, Los Angeles and made my health and wellness a priority.
All of that sounds great, but since then, I’ve lost my way a little bit. I’ve talked to so many people who have done the same thing.
We got used to working from home…. In pajamas!
We got used to interacting with people …. Online!
Many of us (myself included) became complacent. Working from home, not getting outside enough and being glued to the computer keyboard exacerbated the problem. In November of 2020, a survey found that 43% of Americans reported having feelings of anxiety or depression. That’s almost half of us.
So, where do we go from here?

The answer is that we START SHOWING UP FOR OUR OWN LIVES.
Imagine the best version of yourself. What do you? Are you sitting in the home office eating an unhealthy snack while wearing pajamas or, are you waking up early, go for a walk, take a shower, and put on an outfit that makes you feel amazing before beginning the day?
How do you speak and connect? Are you primarily interacting via email, text and online or are you picking up the phone to talk to a colleague, attending networking events, smiling when you greets friends, both old and new and looking for opportunities to connect and build confidence?
How do you work? Are you wondering lackadaisically through the day, mindlessly moving from one task to another or are you beginning the day with a plan of top priorities, a list of tasks to accomplish and a clear goal so that you fall asleep feeling at peace and accomplished?
How do you grow? Do you come home after the day to laze in front of Netflix, or are you taking time to read, talk to your family, take a course or otherwise move yourself forward?
I used to fantasize about all of the things I could do if there was freedom in my schedule or if I worked from home. Now that I have the freedom to do that, I have found that in order to really achieve the life I want, I also have the have the discipline to built the life I want.
Last week I asked you whether or not you were living life on purpose or on accident. This week, the challenge is greater. Today, I challenge you to live on purpose.
Imagine the very best version of yourself and begin to show up every single day as that.
Wake up and start acting like your ideal self!
For the next 24 hours, imagine you are in a move and you are playing the person you always wanted to be. Talk like that person. Act like that person. See what happens when you intentionally become the person you want to be.
